UPS delivered the ammo today: five heavy boxes of a thousand rounds apiece. I put them in a wheelbarrow to get them into the barn, and then hoisted them (one at a time) up to the hay loft using the pulleys. I stored them behind the hay. They’ll stay dry there, and hopefully no one would ever think to look.
I felt a little silly when I ordered them. Now, after 5-11, it seems like a prudent move. Whatever the future holds, it won’t hurt to be prepared.
We’ve got a small problem with all the canned goods we bought: no place to put them. We can’t put them in the barn where they might freeze when the nights get cold, or the cans would burst. We don’t have a basement (though I wish we did). For now, Sarah has stacked them in the front entry. With dozens of cans in the way, we won’t be using the front door for a while.
I think back to other days, when the world seemed more settled, even if my own daily life had its idiosyncrasies.
